Ukrainian refugees are advised to register with the German authorities as soon as possible. This is a prerequisite for being able to open a bank account, get money, take up employment or receive medical care.
Please make an appointment at the Citizen’s Office (“Bürgerbüro”) in the town hall, Bahnhofplatz 1, 97980 Bad Mergentheim. Due to the large number of refugees, there is unfortunately a longer waiting time until an appointment is available. Call 0049-7931-573306 or 0049-7931-573307 or 0049-7931-573309 or write an e-mail to buergerbuero@bad-mergentheim.de to arrange an appointment as soon as possible.
Bring your passport or identity card to this appointment as well as a certificate of your landlord or host. You can download this Wohnungsgeberbestätigung from the homepage of Bad Mergentheim. When registering you will need proof that you have been vaccinated against or have recovered from Corona. If not, you will need a current negative rapid test for Corona. You will also need a translator. Ask at the office of the Arbeitskreis Asyl for a translator if you do not know one yourself.
After registration you will receive a fiction certificate (“Fiktionsbescheinigung”) by mail. Please make sure that your name is on the mailbox of your apartment. You need the certificate of fiction (“Fiktionsbescheinigung”) to open a bank account or to start a job.
Make an appointment at a bank and open a bank account. For this you need the fiction certificate (“Fiktionsbescheinigung”) and your passport.
The Citizen’s Office will also send you an application for asylum seeker benefits. Please fill out this form and hand it in at the district office (“Landratsamt”), Wachbacher Str. 54, 97980 Bad Mergentheim to get money. Please call 0049-7931-48276391 to arrange an appointment there.
